Icebergs in June
June is often when icebergs arrive on our shores - if they’re going to come at all, of course.
To celebrate a phenomenon that never fails to take our breath away, I’ve invited local artists to help
fill the studio with their interpretations of these majestic ice castles. I’ll include some of my crystalline
iceberg plates, as well! Please drop by in June to view (or buy) - or simply to catch the icy fever.
Featured artists include:
Spotlight on Saltfish
Printmaker and fine artist Janet Davis has been persuaded to visit the studio on the
second weekend in September, and bring her recent work with a saltfish theme. Two weekends
later, I’ll have the pleasure of travelling to Janet’s Norton’s Cove Studio (in Brookfield, Bonavista Bay).
These are Open House weekends-please stop by to share your saltfish stories and see how two different
craftspeople approach the same subject.
A Feast of Pottery
(Venue TBA). Plans are coming together for this show and I am very excited about it.
The pottery will be arranged in place settings – each designed by different potters –
on a banquet table. Running down the centre of the table will be additional and
complimentary pieces of pottery such as cream and sugars, salt & peppers, vases,
pitchers and larger serving pieces. This will be a show for people who love pottery.
It will be a great chance to collect work by some wonderful Newfoundland and Canadian potters.
Featured artists include:
Christmas Craft Fair (Arts and Culture Centre)
I will be there November 11-14
December Open Studio
Yes, it seems a long way off, but ideas are already percolating ... and, in fact,
the focus this Open Studio weekend will be on the humble mug! This pre-Christmas
Open Studio weekend will feature mugs by several makers, and include some fantastic coffee from Jumping Bean Coffee, as well.
