icebergs

The glowing ice palaces that drift by Newfoundland and Labrador each spring captivate and amaze all who see them. They were born from giant rivers of ice—the glaciers that flow from Greenland’s ice cap to its coast.

Several years can pass as the giant bergs make their majestic way south on the ocean currents, slowly melting with each passing minute and mile. They finally disappear under the waves and beneath the summer sun not long after they sail past Newfoundland’s coastline.

In her iceberg-inspired work, Alexis Templeton references the ice giants’ outlines and crystalline glazes to capture and honour the magic and mystery of these silent blue, white, and green monoliths.
