rose and blue

Red hues are difficult to achieve in pottery glazes, as the ingredients (elements) that can create red tend to burn away in the kiln’s high heat.

Traditionally, lead was used to make red—but we now know lead is unhealthy for wares that are used to prepare or serve food.

Alexis Templeton developed her signature “Rose & Blue” line early in her career, creating the brilliant scarlet hue using tin and a pinch of chrome (but no lead).
