gallery: rose & blue
Red hues are difficult to achieve in pottery glazes, as the required ingredients tend to burn away in the kiln's high heat. Traditionally, lead was used to make red – which we now know is unhealthy for food-use ware. Alexis Templeton developed her signature "Rose & Blue" line early in her career, using tin and a pinch of chrome (and no lead) to create a brilliant scarlet.
