Alexis Templeton takes her work from raw clay to finished presentation.
Skilled in time-honoured methods of working with clay—throwing rounded forms on the wheel and working with slab clay, for example—she also adapts or refines the resulting pieces to create her distinctive handmade work.
She alters some pieces with the addition of handformed embellishments, as in her salt fish work. She also treats her slab work with a keen eye for melding form with the finished surface, as in her iceberg pieces.
Perhaps most distinctive of all, she has explored and perfected a series of distinctive glaze treatments that have become her signature among the potters and ceramic aficionados in Newfoundland and Labrador. (For more information, see gallery.)
